Hey Zack,

Did not get a chance to say hello last night after the SmugMug SF event. Great work with the panel by the way. I will be checking back to your blog on occasion going forward. This post of yours obviously reinforces what all of the photographers @ the event were experiencing with the “mis-tagging” of their photos within the sites your guys reviewed!

Like the way you explain the topic with more depth within this post. Have a Web Site and Blog to get up and running for myself (got a Web Builder Buddie, wanted him to attend last nights session, but he had a partner meeting himself :-/) … SEO & the “Photo Alt Text” will defiantly be within my Photo posts going forward. As soon as I learned Flash was not being viewed by the search engines, it has lost my interest…even though other Photographers seam to really love the look because it is “slick & polished!”

Thanks for this article, Zach. I’m slowly plugging my way through the Photographers SEO Book and it has definitely made a difference in my rankings. I’m in a super competitive wedding photography market, but appearing between pages 2 and 4 – which is way better than where I started (not even in the top 200 spots).

As long as you all realise that ‘alternative text’ attributes were available before Google et al started harnessing them for search and ranking purposes. The real use of them being to provide a text alternative if the user has images disabled or the user hemself is visually impaired.

But why would you want such a user visiting a photographic site? Interesting question….

wow again!! got to love the internet and Zach!!! immediately after I post a comment, I receive a notice that Zach is following me on Twitter and immediately after that I see a tweet re my site and his recommendation re some much needed seo work on my home page. wow!! thanks for taking the time to look and to note the need. a work in progress that is coming together over the last couple of weeks–which I need to add is coming together with all the SEO help I got from Zach’s ebooks and video and blog posts–amazingly helpful
